Welcome to the first of the 2010 social fund-raising events with an entertaining Quiz night lead by Mrs Janet Wallis. It takes place in Kirkburn Village Hall, 7.30pm prompt: supper provided, and a bar will be available.

Sadly I'm afraid that The BIG NIGHT OUT; 14th November at Driffield Community Centre has had to be cancelled. Despite the best efforts of the Committee, there were insufficent numbers attending to make a `do' and fill the hall. Many thanks to all those who were intending to come & support, dance & drink! Any money already paid will be reimbursed in due course. I hope it can be re-arranged for May/June time 2010 when we can all make it!

Winter coaching/social play starts Tuesday 13th October AT HUTTON CRANSWICK not Nafferton!!7.15-9pm: £3 per session, Simply turn up & play!

Sunday 23rd August is the End Of Season Social Play-Day! Start time:10.45am until late/late afternoon. No need to come with a partner or book, just turn up on the day and Mo has very kindly offered to organise us in a Butterfly Tournament. There is no charge as such, unless you would like to donate towards the tea/coffees etc. Please bring you own picnic lunch All is weather permitting with Sunday 30rd as the reserve date.Members if you would like to `bring a friend' that would be fine too! Enjoy! We look forward to seeing you there.

On Saturday night Rosegarth provided the location for the Driffield Lawn Tennis Club 2009 Summer Barbecue. The ninety guests were met by the swinging melodies from the jazz band 'The Bell All Stars' who continued to add to the atmosphere throughout the evening. Chefs; Angus Naylor, Dave Hall & Mark Goodson slaved away over a hot BBQ all evening to ensure the marinated steaks, chicken & sausages were cooked to perfection. Home-grown lettuce and new potatoes complimented the crunchy salads kindly provided by committee & club members, followed by an impressive array of delicious sweets. Many thanks to; all the committee members who combined their efforts to ensure the evening's smooth running; Anne Horrox,(who spent much of her evening out, in the kitchen!);thanks to James Kitching for the bar equipment,John Simpson for his generosity and Simpson's Wine Vaults for the wine and glasses; the members that supported and brought their friends, but of course a huge THANK YOU to the host's Richard & Issi Shepherdson & family, who provided the perfect setting for the evening and of course for all their work in preparing before and clearing up after our invasion!

The Mixed Tournament held at the club on Sunday 21st June, was entered by 13 couples. An unlucky number for some?!But not yesterday as the day could not have been more perfect, the sun shone, and everything ran smoothly. Mark Goodson soon had the running order organised in 3 mini-divisions followed by quarter, semi-finals & then the final. Members Dave Hall and Mark Goodson, with guests Lynda Richardson and Lynne Easingwood as partners (from Long Riston & Driffield Recreation Clubs respectively)fought it out to the end but favourites Dave & Lynda kept the pressure on, and came out victorious. Play was only broken for lunch, and tea breaks served with delicious home-made cakes! It was lovely to see members, guests and their families enjoying the idyllic setting and catching up with friends and this lovely sunny afternoon. Many thanks to all who attended and helped; but especially to Mark Goodson for organising the order of play, Chris & Peter for preparing the courts and all the ladies that baked the delicious cakes! Keep you eyes out now for details of the Ladies Butterfly Tournament on Monday 22nd July! Sorry men!

Many thanks to Chris Atkinson who this week has literally raised the roof, or at least the canopy outside the clubhouse! The posts were rotten at the bottom and he has somehow inserted metal bases and now..not all, but most people can walk underneath it again without fear of bumping their head!.Thank you Chris, a good job!
